“For the souls of all children who died in Residential Schools far from the comforting presence of the families, and for all those who mourn their tragic deaths: we pray they find comfort and peace in the presence of our loving Lord and Saviour.”

Expression of Commitment
June 2, 2021
Dear First Nations governments and all Indigenous communities, families and citizens,
In light of the heartbreaking disclosure of the remains of 215 children at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School, I am writing to express my deep apology and profound condolences to the families and communities that have been devastated by this horrific news.  Each time new evidence of a tragedy is revealed, or another victim comes forward, countless wounds are reopened, and I know that you experience renewed suffering.
I take this opportunity to reflect upon the apology I gave publicly before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 2013, words to which I remain committed and accountable: “I wish to apologize sincerely and profoundly to the survivors and their families, as well as to all those subsequently affected, for the anguish caused by the deplorable conduct of those Catholics who perpetrated mistreatment of any kind in these residential schools.”  The Church was unquestionably wrong in implementing a government colonialist policy which resulted in devastation for children, families and communities.

B.C. allowing churches to open with 50 people, details to come

By | Announcement, Article, Artículo, covid19 | No Comments
Dr. Bonnie Henry stated today that indoor worship services with up to 50 people will be allowed to resume this weekend.  The variance detailing safety requirements will be posted on the BC Restart site on Thursday, and these are expected to be very similar to those in place last fall.
This is good news indeed!   While there is work ahead of us to prepare for the presence of congregations in our churches once again, the return to the celebration of Mass with the participation of the faithful, now and more fully as the summer unfolds, is a reason to give thanks to God.
More information will be coming from the Communications Office as it becomes available.
With the assurance of my prayers, I remain
+J. Michael Miller, CSB
Archbishop of Vancouver

Restrictions have been extended until further notice

By | Announcement, Article, Artículo | No Comments

The restrictions for celebrating mass without a congregation have been extended. We are disciples of community and not to be able to gather to worship is so very difficult. We understand that the restrictions are there to keep everyone safe and so we follow them. Please participate in the live-streamed masses. These are every Monday to Friday at 6:30 pm, Saturday at 5:00 pm and Sunday at 11:30 am and 1:00 pm. Let us pray that soon we can once again gather to listen to the Word of God and celebrate the sacraments.

Times for personal prayer are 8:00 am – 9:00 am Monday to Saturday and 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm Monday to Friday. A priest will able available for confessions at these times as well as on Saturday from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm.

The Archdiocesan Campaign Project Advance has initiated for 2021. Those who have donated in the past should have received a letter from the archdiocese and can use the form included to donate. You can also donate through our web page olos.ca as well as at the parish office Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Please watch the archbishop’s video and read further information at olos.ca. Many thanks for your generous cooperation especially in these difficult times.

Our goal this year is $41,000.00. These are monies that go toward supporting the many ministries of the archdiocese. All that is collected beyond the goal once expenses for the campaign are paid comes back to the parish. This year we will need to paint the interior of the church, the pews and the doors.
